Building Partnerships that Connect Brands, Culture and Consumers

Tim McGhee leads Partnerships at Modern Current, helping brands build and activate partnerships that extend their reach, deepen consumer engagement and create measurable business value.

With more than 25 years of experience across brand partnerships, sponsorship strategy and activation, Tim has worked at the intersection of brands, sports, entertainment and culture throughout his career. He brings a particularly valuable perspective to Modern Current clients: experience on both sides of the partnership equation, advising major brands and properties as well as leading a significant sponsorship portfolio from inside a global brand.

Prior to joining Modern Current, Tim founded MSP Sports, a strategic consultancy focused on helping brands and properties maximize the value of their sponsorship investments. Previously, as Senior Vice President and Managing Director of IMG Consulting, he led the agency’s North American client engagements, advising companies including Marriott, Coca-Cola, Kia Motors, Kraft Foods, USAA and Visa on partnership and sponsorship strategy.

Earlier, Tim served as Executive Director of Global Sponsorships for Cingular Wireless and AT&T, where he led strategy and activation for a portfolio of more than 80 national and local partnerships spanning sports, entertainment and marquee cultural platforms. The portfolio included NASCAR’s Richard Childress Racing, the NCAA, The Masters, the AT&T Williams Formula 1 team, the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys, as well as major naming-rights partnerships including AT&T Center and AT&T Park.

Tim also held senior roles at IMG Consulting, where his clients included Verizon Communications and the NCAA, and built his early career in promotional and sponsorship marketing at PSP Sports, Contemporary Marketing and Momentum, working with brands including American Express and Lucent Technologies. He began his career in management consulting, specializing in process optimization and business operations, experience that continues to inform his commercially grounded approach to partnerships.

Tim holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Cornell University and an MBA in management and finance from Columbia University.
